Stress

Stress is literally a killer! Most people suffer from stress at some time. Often it is short lived but in more severe cases it can have all sorts of effects on the mind and body. Some of these effects can be very nasty. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is often associated with stress. Hypnotherapy is recognised by the NHS as a valid treatment for IBS. Stress has often been blamed for heart attacks in relatively young people. You have probably heard the term “Executive stress”. It seems young executives are prone to heart attacks often between the ages of 35 and 45 for men. Other health issues can be associated with stress such as over eating or smoking both of which put extra stress on the heart.
Stress can be detrimental to our immune system which means we can suffer more illnesses when stressed. There is even research that links the onset of cancer to stress in some people.
